Protecting children around swimming pools.

Parent's have a responsibility to maintain a safe swimming pool environment for children to ensure that there are no tragic mishaps.

No matter what type of swimming pool you currently have, or are considering purchasing, whether its above ground or below ground, you'll need to make sure that child safety is the number one priority. Swimming pool safety with children especially, requires vigilance and taking adequate steps to protect those who are going to be using the pool from having a tragic accident. Accidental drowning rates are very high, along the most common causes of death in young children so it is your responsibility to provide a child safe swimming pool environment .

Child Swimming Pool Safety is everyone's responsibility.
Child Swimming Pool Safety is everyone's responsibility.

The most important aspect of safety around a swimming pool, is to make sure that children are never left unattended and cannot access the pool without an adult. The mos common way to to prevent children accessing a swimming pool is to put a fence around it, and keep the gate locked at all times, only allowing adults access to the key. Small children may be naturally attracted to the water, and it is very easy for them to accidentally fall in and drown if they aren't constantly being observed. Hundreds of children pass away in the United States alone by drowning, because there parents did not vigilantly guard their swimming pool turning a fun, exciting place for kids into a potential nightmare. Because they had no swimming pool fence, their children had access to the swimming pool which often ends in tragedy or a close call. Most of these deaths could have easily been avoided if the swimming pool owner used a child safety fence around his or her swimming pool.

Be prepared by having plenty of child safety equipment such as "swimmies" or child lifejackets and make sure your children have a healthy fearful respect of water.
Whenever your swimming pool is open, be sure to make sure that there is always someone around who is a very adept swimmer. Even letting friends use the pool that you know cannot swim, creates a risk of accidental drowning. Even though it may not be the intention, it can easily happen in a flash. Swimming can be great fun and excellent exercise, however it can also be very dangerous if someone gets in the water that isn't able to swim.

Above ground pools require a ladder or a deck, which makes it hard for small children to get into and also makes it unnecessary for a fence unless it is for privacy. On the other hand, many children can climb up the ladder and may not be able to swim proficiently. Make sure children know how important swimming pool safety is and that they understand not to go near the pool unless an adult is around.

If you enforce swimming pool safety in your home, everyone will be safer and have more enjoyment. Almost everyone regardless of age loves to swim and enjoy the water, especially on those hot dog days of summer. A swimming pool is a ton of fun for the whole family, but be sure child safety your first concern. You can't be to safe, your main concern should be saving lives. Before anyone uses your swimming pool, make sure that they understand the child swimming pool safety aspects of pool use. Please purchase a swimming pool fence if you have small children, it is a small price to pay to protect those you love from accidental drowning.

The rate of death from drowning in Florida is scary it's so high for kids under the age of 5 years. I saw my niece, who at the time was around 3 years old walk straight for my pool. Luckily we had up our kiddie fence. Good advice.
