Cat Behavior Meanings Finally Explained. Why Does my Cat ...?
66Cat's have forever confused mankind seemingly pursuing their own self interests, not paying much attention to their humans and only requiring clean litter, food, water and attention when THEY want it. Cat behaviors are finally being explained and the meanings of their actions are being better understood due to advances in research and scientific analysis. Humans are getting closer and closer to being able to fully determine the wants and needs of their cats based on what looks like confusing behavior. Luckily there are a few ways you can start to understand cat behavior meanings that are explained below.
One of the most common behaviors that cats exhibit is pushing their heads into any type of object that is near them. You have probably seen a cat do this before, probably against Chair legs, tables, or even your leg. People who come over to your house and also own animals or people with severe allergies also will likely notice this behavior because of the scent the cat leaves behind. Cats put saliva on objects and rub their fur on it as a sign of ownership, so when your cat rubs your leg with his face, he means he owns you!
By rubbing this saliva on someone or something, that object or person will smell familiar and become the cats territory. This can be annoying at times but it is a sign of love from your cat. Understanding cat behavior meanings requires that you acknowledge that other people in your home are seen as strange to your cat. When a cat rubs his face on the person, he is trying to make the guest belong to his environment that he is used to. When the cat brushes up against the guest and puts cat saliva on them, the cat is trying to apply his very own cat scent to them which allows the cat to believe that this guest belongs in their environment.
The problem with this common cat behavior is that saliva is one of the most common forms of pet allergens. When a person wipes the saliva off of themselves, the scent dissipates and so the cat repeats the process again. It may even seem like cats target those specifically with allergies, cats are definitely just trying to make the visitor belong at the house while the visitor is trying to get the allergen off of himself!
If your cat happens to be an indoor cat, you should expect the indoor cat to spend a great deal of time lying near windows. While lying near windows, cats often make odd noises or strange movements. This is a result of the cats wild instinctive hunting nature. Usually this behavior denotes another cat or animal outside moving around, and the cat will see it triggering his cat hunting behavior mechanisms.
Another thing cat lovers often mention is that cats certainly love to play. They particularly have an affinity for small toys or strings. They often pounce on toys like they would be pouncing on prey in the wild. If you try to discourage this type of behavior, your cat will not react positively and the cat is more likely to cause destruction and damage to your home. Cat's love cheap items such as rolled up aluminum foil, yarn, the strip that comes off of plastic milk jugs, a lot of time they like household objects more then expensive store bought cat toys.
The longer you have been a cat owner, the more bizarre behavior you will witness. Cats behave in a way that is totally alien to their human observers, although their is always a method to their madness.
Do you have any funny cat stories about strange cat behavior that you would like to share and analyze?

I like to think of dogs as the "buddies" of the animal world. They just want to be with you doing whatever you are doing. Cats are more "diva". Everything is on their terms and their schedule. Both have a place.
Our family is owned by 3 cats. Our youngest, a little over a year old, is still "wild." The other morning he leapt across the bed and hung on our Roman shade (just like the old Garfield window hangings). After he extricated himself, he did it again!. Hilarious.
I wrote a Hub about cat behaviours as well that covers a few other topics! You should check it out!
Great stuff! I am a late-in-life cat lover.

rlaframboise, Cats truly are funny and fun. I have had cats over the years but the little girl we have now is very sweet. She never tries to destroy anything. That's because she has everything she needs - her own cat condo in front of our balcony window where she watches the birds all day. She makes those funny little noises you were talking about while she bird watches. One funny thing she does with her dry food - She uses her paw to pick certain pieces (her favorite flavors I guess) out of her dish which makes her dish end up in the middle of the kitchen floor. We don't mind. We just move it back and it gives her something to do the next time she eats.
Thanks for sharing. Cats are special.
